Packers steal point away from Royals
October 14th - Royals @ Packers
On Friday Stittsville was in Arnprior to take on the Packers at the Nick Smith Centre. In the 1st period it was the Packers getting on the board first with a goal [Kyte from Daniels] at 13:13. The Royals replied a few shifts later off a clean faceoff win in the offensive zone by Scott Barnes back to the point and Matt Kadolph tipping it in to tie the game 1-1 at 10:52. [Kadolph from Welch, Barnes] Goalie Erik Miksik saw most of action with the Royals being outshot 17-10 due to playing most of the period shorthanded.
In the 2nd period the Packers scored an ugly goal [Kyte from Eady, Suckow] on a defensive breakdown to take the lead 2-1 at 12:08. Both teams had several scoring chances during the rest of play in the period with leading rookie scorer Neil Penner using his long reach to quickly wrap the puck around and score before the goalie could even move at 4:04. [Penner from Brown (PP)] G Erik Miksik was again doing most of the work stopping 14 of 15 shots in the period.
It was the Packers scoring early in the 3rd period to break the tie and give them a 3-2 lead at 17:25. [Smith from Eady, Suckow] The Royals replied at 11:19 off of a nice play by Alex Hulford to get the puck to Cody Waite who had an open net and made no mistake. [Waite from Hulford, Guolla] With the game tied at 3 and the game winding down it was the Royals taking another bad penalty at 2:37 that would prove to be their doom because the Packers would capitalize just 10 seconds into the powerplay to give them a 4-3 lead. [Suckow from Collins, Doner] Erik Miksik would take the loss despite stopping 36 of 40 shots.
